WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH TO MASTOPEXY?
There are different approaches when performing a breast lift. During your consultation, Dr. Chen will discuss the best treatment based on the degree of sagging, patient preference, and body shape.
The different incision options vary based on degree of breast drooping and desired outcome. Here are some different surgical approaches:
Anchor Incision or Inverted T: significantly droopy breasts are the beast candidates for this incision.
Lollipop Lift: recommended for women with moderate degree of breast sagging.
Donut Lift or Peri-areolar Lift: is appropriate for mild to moderate sagging.
HOW IS A MASTOPEXY PERFORMED?
After making the incision, the excess skin is removed and nipples/areolas are moved to a higher position. Breast implants are sometimes inserted to increase breast size or upper pole fullness if desired by the patient. Finally, the incisions are closed and strategically placed to minimize appearance of scarring. After the procedure, your breast will appear more symmetrical, fuller, and more youthful.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING MASTOPEXY?
A breast lift is performed under general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. The procedure takes about one to three hours, depending on size of your breasts and whether implants are placed.
WHAT IS THE POST OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY LIKE AFTER MASTOPEXY?
After surgery, Dr. Chen will apply bandages around your wounds and place you in a compression bra. You may also be given antibiotics during and after surgery to help reduce the risk of infections and pain medications to minimize post-operative discomfort. You will return to the office 1 day after surgery for a close monitoring of your progress.
There are typically no stitches to be removed, as the sutures used are absorbable. You should continue to wear a support bra to decrease swelling. You should be able to return to work in about one week.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF MASTOPEXY?
Following surgery, many women feel more confident in their new firm, youthful, and attractive breast. Some previous symptoms such as breast heaviness, back pain, neck pain, and rashes may also be alleviated after surgery.
