Brow Lift or Forehead Lift
WHAT IS A BROW LIFT (FOREHEAD LIFT)?
As we age gravity, sun exposure, stress, muscle activity, and heredity can cause the forehead and brow area to droop. The brow often results in excess skin over the eyelids. The natural tendency of this drooping is for you to raise your eyebrows, which can create deep wrinkling in the forehead and between the eyes. A drooping brow can make you look tired, angry, and older. The browlift (forehead lift) will give you a more youthful and fresh look.
WHAT IS YOUR TREATMENT APPROACH TO A BROWLIFT?
Dr. Chen has different techniques for a browlift surgery, including endoscopic browlift, temporal browlift, hairline browlift, and coronal browlift. The approach used will be determined based on the patient’s anatomy and personal goals.
Endoscopic browlift has a quicker recovery and fewer and smaller incisions are made in the hairline. The muscles and tissues are lifted and repositioned to correct your forehead wrinkling and excess skin around the eyelid.
A temporal browlift is performed with a small incision in the hairline to address lateral drooping of the brow.
A hairline browlift uses an incision in your hairline to raise your brows. This is useful for those who have long foreheads that may wish to shorten it. The incision heals well within your hairline.
A coronal browlift requires a long incision along the hairline. The coronal brow lift can pinpoint specific regions of the brow to correct. The recovery time may be longer due to the longer incision needed. This technique is not used as often as other approaches.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING A BROWLIFT?
A brow lift is performed under general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. The procedure can take between two to three hours.
WHAT IS THE POST OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY LIKE AFTER BROWLIFT?
You will receive detailed post-operative instructions. You will have some mild swelling for about one week following surgery. Cold compresses will help with swelling, and pain medication will be prescribed to help alleviate pain. You will return for post operative appointments to closely monitor your healing progress. Your stitches will be removed a week after surgery. You can return to normal activity in most cases around one week.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF A BROW LIFT?
A browlift (forehead lift) will create a more youthful look and soften the lines and wrinkles around the forehead and between the eyes. There will be minimal appearance of scarring since all scars are hidden in the hairline.
