Dr. Chen believes in using multi-modality approach to hair restoration. This includes using:
Topical or systemic treatments such as minoxidil or finasteride.
Laser treatments such as laser cap, which emit low-level laser to stimulate hair roots and promote hair growth and minimize loss.
Hair transplant with either FUE (follicular unit extraction) or FUT (follicular unit transplantation) methods.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Hair transplant procedures are done under local anesthesia. Before the procedure, the area where hair will be removed will be numbed. You may also request sedation for the procedure.

HOW IS THE HAIR TRANSPLANT PERFORMED?
Dr. Chen utilizes NeoGraft®, which is the state-of-the-art, semi-automated hair transplant system that facilitates the harvesting of follicles during a follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant. The system improves the accuracy and speed over previously used manual extraction instruments.
The donor site is usually the lower-back of the head above the nape of the neck. Each hair follicle contains one to three individual hairs. Once the follicles are extracted, they are carefully separated and strategically reimplanted in areas of the scalp where hair loss has occurred.
The NeoGraft® micrograft hair transplant procedure does not require a scalpel. Instead, it utilizes an automated handpiece, which gives patients little to no discomfort during the hair transplant procedure.
WHAT IS THE POST-OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY LIKE AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
While a completely non-invasive hair transplant treatment does not exist, the NeoGraft® FUE method is a minimally invasive hair restoration solution for male and female hair loss with no visible scarring and fast recovery.
Wait a few days after the surgery to wash your hair. You should be able to return to work or normal activities in just a few days. You may resume exercise in a week.
Some of the transplanted hairs may fall out. This is part of the normal healing process. However, the new follicles will grow out new hair over time.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Newly implanted hair follicles work with the natural hair growth cycle and results continue to improve each week, with full realization at 9-12 months post-procedure.
